Technical Bulletin: Sharing a COM Port Between LXR*TEST and a PDA Device (4/23/2001)

Procedure:
User attempts to set up or use an Optical Mark Reader on an available COM port (e.g., COM1) with LXR*TEST 6.0.

Error:
The program returns an error message indicating that "Access is denied" to the COM port, even if a docking bay for the PDA is not physically plugged into the COM port.

Resolution:
Check the Windows' task tray in the lower-right of the desktop. Right-click on any icon of PDA software, and choose to disable or exit the PDA application(s). This will free up the COM port.
