Troubleshooting Errors
When Installing LXR*TEST 6.0
Recommendation: If you run anti-virus software
(e.g., McAfee or Norton anti-virus software), then disable it PRIOR to installing
LXR*TEST 6.0. Anti-virus software is known to interfere with proper installation
of LXR*TEST and its required system component files.
CAUTION:
Improper installation may result in less stable application performance.
Error: I have entered in my software key, but the
"Next" button remain inaccessible, so I cannot proceed with the installation process.
Response: While the software key can be entered
in either lowercase or uppercase characters, the problem is usually due to either
a missing character, an incorrectly entered character, or an extra character in
any of the boxes. Try clicking the "Back" button, then the "Next" button, and reenter
the software key from left to right.
CAUTION: Do
not enter any space or hyphen characters - only
the letters and numbers need to be entered in the appropriate boxes.
Error: During the installation process, I receive
a message that informs me that my Internet connection has not been set, and that
I will need to manually set this.
Response: During program installation, the InstallShield
WebUpdate application (included only in LXR*TEST revision 6.0.4.1 and earlier) attempts
to determine what Internet connection method is used on the machine (e.g., local
area network, modem); the WebUpdate application allows for the automatic download
and installation of any patches to the LXR*TEST 6.0 program. If you receive this
message, you will have to manually configure the Internet connection method in the
WebUpdate application (see
this page for steps to follow).
However, the LXR*TEST program will install properly.
Error: During the installation process, I receive
a message that says "MFC 6.2 result: The language of Mfc42loc.dll to be installed
is a different version than the one that already exists on your machine. The file
will not be updated."
Response: The file "Mfc42loc.dll" is found on any
machine that has multiple languages installed on it. Receiving this message does
not necessarily indicate that the LXR*TEST program will not properly install or
function properly. However, if you wish to verify what languages are set on you
computer, follow these steps:
- Check the Control Panel’s Regional Options. On the General tab, which locale (location)
is chosen AND which language is (or languages are) set on the system?
- Locate the file "Mfc42loc.dll". Check the file's properties. What is the language
listed under the Version tab?
Error: I can't seem to get LXR*TEST 6.0 to properly
install on my Windows NT (or 2000) machine.
Response: In order to install LXR*TEST and/or any
of its components, you must first be logged into Windows NT or 2000 with
administrator status.
