LXR Software Support
Revision History 6.0
V6.0.11
- Opening databases. LXRTEST 6.0.11 will no longer allow databases updated with newer
versions of LXRTEST to be opened.
- Web Test. Corrected a problem that would occur on some client machines that had
slower communications with a web server. Timed tests using the warning feature of
LXRTEST would notice that the warning dialog would re-appear after the initial warning
dialog was dismissed.
- Online Window. Feedback data was not displaying for questions that had been converted
from MCS format to another format. This would only happen for questions where the
"For each choice" option had been set while in MCS format, prior to conversion to
another question type.
- Question Window. The initial record of a new question bank that was created while
another question bank was open might carry forward some of the question stats from
the original bank.
- Question Importing. The ET field was being incorrectly initialized.
- Web Test. Results were not being emailed to users who logged onto tests using their
email address. This was due to another recent coding change.
- Web Test. Added additional demographic data to track date and time test was completed
in addition to last date and time test was logged onto.
- Test Window - Picking from items that contained linked instructions might select
more items than requested.
- Question Window. Duplicating a question was not duplicating the objects count field.
This would cause the selection window to not select duplicated questions when selecting
by object count.
- Test Window. Moving linked items to a test while in Category view mode could cause
a program crash.
- Global Changes. Non-MC/TF type questions were not computing the cumulative difficulty
(p value).
- Scores Window. Non-MC/TF type question statistic updating would not always detect
unanswered items and the cumulative item difficulty (p value) was not being computed.
- Item Statistics Report. Non-MC/TF type questions were not always detecting unanswered
items when computing the average test scores.
- Online Window. The drop test box showing the available tests numbers when re-associating
scores did not contain a scroll bar and was not intuitive to use when a larger number
of test numbers were in the list. Added a scroll bar.
- Online Window. Changed the order of a couple of procedures to make sure that SQL
Server databases are handled correctly if some of the foreign key triggers are missing.
- Scores Window. Changed the order of a couple of procedures to make sure that SQL
Server databases are handled correctly if some of the foreign key triggers are missing.
- Scores Window. Creating a new scores database and manually adding scores would sometimes
cause an error because the demographic titles did not exist.
- Web Tests. Proctored exams were not emailing results to email addresses from the
student database. It would only email to email addresses entered in the Report Tab
of the Online window.
- Individual Scores Report. Reports that include a lot of student comments were not
paginating correctly.
- Exporting. Templated exports were not always setting the correct delimiter on the
delimiters page.
- Web Tests. The score result returned to an LMS was sometimes rounded incorrectly.
- Update Question Statistics. The distracter percentages were not being computed during
the update. This would usually only show up during the Bank Listing report because
the percentages were computed at other times as well.
- Item Statistics Report. It is now possible to print student comments from a scores
database when there is no test associated with it.
- Item Statistics Report. The pagination was not correct when a specific combination
of item parts was selected.
- Question Linking. LXRTEST would sometimes not create a hard link to Question objectives
containing dashes.
- Bank Listing Report. Added capability to display distracter percentages.
- Printed Tests. Multiple response answers were not being displayed when the point
values for those items were less than 1.
- Question Window. Changing question format to Matching from other formats would sometimes
crash.
- Question Window. Question banks converted to SQL Server would generate a duplicate
key error for changed statistics records. This has been corrected.
- Question Import. Improved the import error message.
- Web test graphics. LXRTEST will interface with the Microsoft JPEG export filter
when exporting question graphics for web tests. If the Microsoft filter is not available,
the default export filter provided with LXRTEST will be used instead.
- Question Window. Answer labels are now properly updated when changing an existing
question type to MCM format.
- Question Window. Changing question format from T/F to MCS would sometimes crash
the program.
- Global Changes. Category data is no longer being deleted for Instructions during
global changes.
- Question Window. The ELT column was not correctly interpreting NULL values as zero.
- Item Statistics Report. The "p" values would sometimes show a truncated decimal
value, instead of rounding up as desired.
- Question Window. The "p" column in the statistics area would sometimes show a truncated
decimal value, instead of rounding up as desired.
- OMR Scanning. Limit length of data read in any Code field to no more than 4 chars.
Some forms are configured to allow multiple marks and over 4 marks in a Code field
could overflow the allocated space.
- Test Description Report. The first question in an objective group would not contribute
the correct number of points to the computed total when the question was worth something
other than 1 point.
- Individual Mastery Report. Reports summarized by objective that spanned more than
2 pages would sometimes not paginate at the correct location.
- Question Window. Version answers were sometimes not being kept in the correct range
of values when the number of choices for a question was decreased.
- Individual Feedback Report. When printing items with no content or feedback the
question numbers near the footer of the page and near the top of the next page would
not print.
- Test Window. Attempts to pick more items than are selected now will report an error
and change the Pick number to the maximum available. LXRTEST will no longer automatically
add all available items to the test.
- Item Statistics Report. If the last item on a test was omitted by a student, it
was not being included in the omitted count on the item statistics report.
- Item Statistics Report. MCM type questions were not always correctly reporting the
correct overall Avg. As the report currently stands, all questions should display
the same overall Avg value, regardless of the question type.
- Update Question Statistics. An additional option has been added to allow updating
of selected students. If no students are selected, the program behaves as it always
has.
- Item Statistics report. Changed the report to not display questions when comments
were selected and none of the statistics part fields were also selected. If any
statistics part fields are selected the report behaves as it always has.
- Individual Scores report. When summarized by Section break, the section break titles
were not being retrieved from the grading table and the titles would simply show
as Section Break - 01, etc.
- Web Test. The Individual Scores report would only display the first section break
title when viewed by Section break, and the test contained non-numbered section
breaks.
- All Score reports. Any score reports that print objective titles will now print
either the objective or the short objective description from an associated grading
table (if one exists), but not both.
- Test Description Report. When the Summarize By Item banks option was set, any instructions
on the test were incorrectly being counted as 1 point each in the Points column.
- Test Window. Tests opened with a Read only password were allowing the user to change
the lock status and set break information. This now requires a Write password, when
passwords are enabled.
- Individual Scores Report. The report will now display the title description information,
if available, instead of the objective or section ID.
- Test Window. Tests opened with a Read only password were allowing changes to the
order of the test items.
- Question Window. Navigation to a prior object is now supported when navigating a
selected set of questions.
- Test Window. Pick 1 item in the View By Category mode was not working correctly.
- Test Window. The left test panel would collapse expanded categories when data in
a question was updated. The categories now remain expanded.
- Stats Window. The e (equator) column was not updating the window display so it was
impossible to tell if it was checked or not after returning to the question.
- Stats Window. The cumulative RPB value in the stats area was not being computed
using the same formula during when using the Update Question Stats procedure. It
was using a straight average. The correct method is to use a weighted average (based
on the number of admins per test).
V6.0.10
- Scores Demographics Report. The demographic titles were not always matching up with
the proper demographic data.
- Individual Scores Report. Reports with the Items part turned off, the Summary part
turned on and a Summary by Category option selected were not being sorted correctly.
- Scores Window. Manually changing a student ID would lose all demographic data associated
with that scores record.
- Test Window. The insertion location on the test window was moving to the bottom
of the window after removing section breaks.
- Test Window. Posting a test that contained multiple copies of the same instruction
would generate an error for the duplicate instructions.
- Test Window. The Pick option would sometimes pick hard linked instructions after
they had already been included on the test as part of a linked group. This would
occur when picking from a selection.
- Test Window. The Pick option was not choosing any items when the "Question View"
was not set to "Item" and the selected items did not include a parent item.
- Test Window. The Pick option was choosing too many questions, from a selected group
of items when those items contained links.
- Question Import. The points field was being initialized to 1 for existing questions
whenever the point value was not a supplied field.
- OMR Forms. Added ability to load the scoring Type field from an OMR form.
- Test Window. The selected item in the left panel was not always going to the expected
location after moving an item to the right panel. The selected item in the left
list will now move to the next available item in the list.
- Test Window. When viewing by objectives or categories, LXRTEST no longer automatically
expands item views when selecting questions.
- Test Window. The program would not return when choosing items from a category that
had a following category containing no selected items.
- Grading Table. “Read only” warnings for the Grading Table are now only displayed
one time, when the database is opened.
- Web Tests. Modified one of the messages used on the cover page to use the TestType
session variable.
- Web Tests. Add a SafeToEdit.asp include file to the webtest.asp file created for
each web test. This new file can be used by instructors to create custom changes
without having to re-edit the file each time the test is rebuilt.
- Global Changes. Added "Review Date" to the list of available parts that support
search and replace.
- Report Variables. Added a new %ScoresStudents% substitution variable to allow the
printing of the number of students in report headers.
- Report Groups. The SQL statements for sorting on more than 1 category field were
not being generated correctly. An incorrect SQL statement was being generated when
no selection criterion was provided but a sort criterion was.
- Grading Table. Loading of category fields into a grading table was ignoring values
that had the same ending value as a previously loaded value (e.g. OVINE vs BOVINE)
- Student LAN. Grade Instantly code was missing a line of code that would clear the
student answers edit boxes when moving to the next question, only happened when
using the hand icon to move to next question.
- Import Questions (Merge). The merge header control was being cleared when using
an import template, causing the import to fail when executing the template.
- Import Questions. Corrected the template radio buttons. Occasionally two radio buttons
would be selected at one time.
- Individual Scores Report. Adjusted the print column width for the objective title
and points columns so they didn't overwrite each other when extra wide objectives
were being printed.
V6.0.9:
- OMR. Added support for NCS OpScan 4U.
- Online Window. The controls on the Access tab were not being set correctly when
the lock button was in the closed position.
- Online Window. The lock button will now prevent the test from being rebuilt unless
the lock is open.
- Question Window. LXRTEST does not permit multiple consecutive embedded spaces in
an objective. It also does not support trailing spaces in objective names. A single
leading space is permitted. These rules are now more strictly enforced.
- Test Statistics Report. The high student score is no longer occasionally being dropped
from the report.
- Web Tests. The web test application has been modified to allow easier end-user customization
of the text and graphics in the web pages. This modification also lends itself towards
simple multi-lingual support.
- Item Stats report. The overall AVG column value in the Item Stats report now matches
the overall AVG column value displayed in the Question Stats Window.
- Stats Window. The ELT values for individual tests are now being properly accumulated
into the
test row.
- Stats Window. The overall AVG field for all questions is now the average score of
all students who took the test, not just of those who answered the question correctly.
- Stats Window. The difficulty value for zero point value questions is now being updated
correctly.
- Web Tests. Only the first two answers of multiple-response questions with more than
2 correct answers were being processed properly when moving from one question to
the next.
- Global Changes. Renamed the Clear Statistics global change option to Statistics
and provided additional sub-options to support global re-computation (and sorting
by date) of all question statistics and deletion of statistics based on a single
test name and date.
- Question Window Stats. Added a re-compute button to the stats window that will allow
a user to re-compute statistics based on the current administration counts. The
test records are also sorted by test date.
- Question Window Stats. Made all statistics window fields are now editable. Editing
of the
row can be controlled via the Preferences item in the File menu.
- Web Tests. The Individual Scores and Individual Mastery reports will now each generate
a single email report rather than individual reports per objective, section or category
grouping.
- Web Tests. Internal code was limiting the maximum number of student administrations
for a test to 32768. This limit has been removed.
- Web Tests. Disabled the image toolbar that appears in IE 6 when doing a mouse over
of an image in a web test.
- Question Window Stats. T/F question Admin counts did not reflect student responses
of A or B, yet these answers were being treated as T or F elsewhere. A and B answers
are now treated as T or F in the Admin counts.
- Scores Window. If a student answer was edited and then you moved to another student
that change was not being graded.
- Scores Window. Fixed a problem with overwriting all student responses under the
following conditions: modify a student response then “Score (grade)”. This problem
was inadvertently introduced in 6.0.8.1.
- Web Tests. Right mouse clicks have been disabled within the testing window.
- Question Window. Matching and True/False question answers are now being properly
validated during data entry.
- Import/Export. Set the file name view so that, for long file names, the end of the
filename is visible (rather than the path name).
- Web Tests. Some questions containing graphics would not display correctly on Macs
running IE. This appears to be an IE bug. However, by making a small adjustment
to the HTML we were able to work around the problem.
- Question Text Import. The specified question search algorithm is now stricter in
the use of the specified Record Delimiter. This means that consecutive questions
must now be separated by the specified delimiter.
- Student LAN. The size of the instruction area, on linked questions, has been adjusted
to require less scrolling for large instructions.
- Question Selection. Searching for text containing embedded single quotes no longer
generates a SQL syntax error.
- Question Selection. The Text table, used to select on text within a question, will
occasionally get out of sync with the formatted version of the same table. Global
Changes… Reformat Questions can now be used to get these tables back in sync and
correct problems when selecting questions based on text within the stem or choices.
- Question Selection. Corrected an issue where editing category fields with shorter
values would leave hidden data within the field. Selection based on these fields
could pick up on the hidden data. LXRTEST now clears category fields before writing
them to the database. Exporting existing questions to a new database will correct
any potential existing selection problems.
- Question Selection. Using the category window popup context menu to "Select All"
categories based on
selections will now work properly.
- Question Selection. Selecting on admins for questions that had admin data from multiple
tests would select the same question more than once, causing the total number of
questions selected to be more than the total number of questions in the bank. Selections
of admins will now only look at the cumulative stats data for a question.
- Header/Footer Window. Added a %Pages% variable that can be added to report headers/footers
to indicate the total number of pages in a report.
- Projects Window. Increased the maximum projects from 50 to 100.
- Printed Tests. Corrected an issued where printing a test containing last page headers/footers
that were smaller in height than the odd/even page headers/footers could occasionally
cause the last question on the page to be over printed by the footer.
- Projects List. Deleted projects can now be re-used immediately when the project
list has reached its maximum size.
- Scores Window. Manually changed point values for responses are now saved before
printing.
- Scores Window. Improved the speed of importing scores in merge format when the merge
file contained a large number of trailing null responses.

- Main Window Status Bar. Tool tips are now displayed for the project area of the
status bar.
- Online Window. SQL Server connections that contained SQL Server instance names and/or
port references are now handled correctly.

from one question to another using a keyboard shortcut.
- Test Window. When using the toolbar save icon, it will now force a write under all
circumstances.
V6.0.8:
- Printed Tests. The question ID information no longer prints at the top of the next
page when it has already been printed at the bottom of the current page.

the other files, if moved to another location.
- Questions Window. Multiple choice answers typed into the answer window are now being
validated with respect to the scramble range.

who were printed following students who received 100%. Selecting only students with
less than 100% or sorting the scores so 100% values were last would bypass the problem.
- Web Tests. The sequence number field in the Scores record for a new student wasn't
taking the Test Number into consideration. This would cause Scores databases containing
multiple sets of test records to have sequential Sequence numbering across tests,
rather than within each test individually.
- Student Window. Made the student count field wider to handle 5 digits.
- Export Students. Added the ability to export just the selected students in merge
and native formats.
- Web Tests. Some question substitution variables were not being correctly resolved
in web tests. This has been corrected.
- SQL Databases. Sometimes LXRTEST would needlessly report a database was already
opened. This could happen with an upsized question bank when creating a new Specifications
database. Also happened when opening an upsized Online database referencing an upsized
Grading Table.
- Spelling. When spell checking only selected questions, the spell checker was reading
through all questions in the bank, even though it was only spell checking the selected
questions. Now only the selected questions are read, improving the speed when checking
only selected questions.
- Update Question Statistics. If the number of student responses was less than the
total items the omit count was being incorrectly incremented.
- Global Changes. The E.T. field was not being cleared.
- Question Export. RTF exports had incorrect label formatting and were causing unexpected
output. HTML exports of Matching questions also had incorrect label formatting and
were causing misalignment of graphics.
- Student LAN. When multiple tests were linked together, if you finished one of the
linked tests it would exit from the entire group.
- Student LAN. The default launch location was not always being remembered.
- Student LAN. Elapsed time was not being recorded when going from one linked test
to another.
- Student LAN. Corrected a problem with calculating elapsed time when a test is re-entered.
- Import Questions and Global Change Questions. The randomization of answers in multiple
versions was not taking the scramble range into account during the scrambling. This
was causing some invalid version answers after importing or global changes of scramble
info.
- Web Tests. Letter grades were not being assigned within the scores database during
web testing.
- Scores Window. Recent changes were causing the Error field in the Scores Window
to always display a [] when a student was clicked on. In addition, the color coding
of the responses was not being set until the data was actually clicked on by the
user.
- Scores Window. The scores window sort order was inadvertently changed to sort by
Student ID. It has been changed back to sort by load order.
- Preferences. Changes to the’ No Widow’ setting in the preferences was not being
remembered.
- Question insert. Was not working properly and has been corrected.
- Test Specification Overlap Report. Pagination wasn't always working correctly when
there was more than a page worth of overlapping items.
- Test Window. Reassociating a question bank didn't always take affect when the question
bank had the same name but was in a different location.
- Student Window. Recent changes were causing the first empty student record to not
appear in newly created databases.
- Printing Question Stats. If there were no administrations, a value of -1 was being
printed for the percentage. This now prints as 0.
- Scores Window. Recent changes were causing scores from all tests to appear in each
window. Scores could be duplicated among different tests in the same scores database.
- Printing Questions. If the Question ID was being printed it would sometimes overprint
the Notes field at the top of a page. This has been corrected.
- Scoring - Minor changes to allow a dual-sided form to be read as two single-sided
forms.
- Test Specifications. Recent changes were causing the last spec row to not be saved.
Each time the file was opened and saved the last spec would get deleted.
- Student LAN. MCS questions were not displaying the chosen item when the items had
multiple character labels.
- Student LAN. Multiple character labels were not being accepted if the first label
did not contain a "1" in the label.
- Online Window. When creating an online file it will now correctly determine the
test number prior to writing the online data.
- Item Statistics Report. When printing the question id, it will no longer incorrectly
display an instruction ID when its the first item on a test.
- Export questions (native format). Fixed a problem with trying to link items when
both items were not part of the selected items to export.
- Web Tests. Disabled single character response for questions with numeric labels
and more than 10 responses.
- Question Window. Enabled Paste Special when attempting to paste in data from the
clipboard that contains table information. Table information can not be pasted in
directly, but the data can be pasted in as a picture or as raw text.
- Test Window. Tests now correctly handle items which are both inclusively and exclusively
linked at the same time.
- Print Questions/Tests. Questions were always printing alphabetic label info in the
answer substitution variable even when numeric labels were set.
- Global changes. The end of table markers in both the stem and the alternatives tables
were not being changed during global font/size/style changes.
- Item Statistics Report. Fixed problem with wrong section number displaying if there
were sections in the middle of the test which did not contain any items.
- Data access. Loading data from a remote SQL Server was very slow. Implemented bulk
reading to improve loading of Scores database from a remote SQL Server.
- Student LAN. Numeric Labels - clicking on double digit choice labels will now correctly
store the chosen answer. If question is multiple responses then the comma delimiter
will need to be manually entered by student. Grade instantly will instead display
a grade button similarly to the way short answer works.
- WebTest. Multiple choice answers were not being handled correctly when the answer
contained multiple characters (i.e. numeric labels > 9).
- Program speed. Made a few changes to improve speed when accessing a database located
on a remote server. Some operations have improved by a factor of 5 times.
- WebTest Individual Scores report. Added additional support for conditional display
of letter grade and/or scale scores.
- Scores Windows. Display error message when attempting to add more than 99 tests
to the score file.
- Question Import Merge Format. Matching questions were not getting the total points
set correctly.
- Individual Score Report. Modified report settings for summary area, letter grade
and scale score radio buttons are now check boxes.
- Question Merge Import. Correct answers were being lost when the questions already
existed and the answer data was not one of the import fields.
- Test Printing. Moved the vertical column separator to the left when preceding underlines
is checked.
- Student LAN. When opening a file with the internal read password, the file should
not allow rows to be deleted.
- Test Printing. Modified test printing to force the question number to not print
by itself at the bottom of the page when the question contents are not printed as
part of the test.
- Test Specifications Window. When opening a file with the internal read password,
the file should not be remembering any changes.
- Read Answer Key. When specifying the bank to create by just typing over the suggested
name it would generate an error if this file did not exist. The work around is to
use the browse button.
- Student LAN. Bookmarks can now be set on unlinked instructions.
- Project Dialog. Setting a full path on both the Common directory and the database
directories could cause a program crash.
- WebTest. Non-linked instructions were printing with numbers on the feedback report.
- Item Stats Report. Pagination was not being computed correctly and when printing
one page of a multiple page report the footer was being overrun.
- Student LAN. If first item on test is an unlinked instruction then the first actual
question is color coded black instead of green.
- Online Window. Enable instructor id and password entry if test is associated with
a score file.
- Student LAN. Accept instructor override if test is a scored test.

- Basic maintenance release
V6.0.6.2:
- Student Window. Changes made in 6.0.6.1 were causing the first empty student record
to not appear in newly created databases.

printed for the percentage. This now prints as 0.
- Scores Window. Changes made in 6.0.6.1 were causing scores from all tests to appear
in each window. Scores could be duplicated among different tests in the same scores
database.

- Corrected a problem where Instructions were not affected by Global Changes' Search
& Replace.

cause the exit page to not load properly.
- Corrected issue where Merge import of questions could erase category values, question
stats and user values.
