Frequently asked Questions

General Questions About LXR*TEST 6.1

Issue: What is the difference between a "bank" and a "test"?

Response: A "bank" is the file that pools together a bunch of questions that you enter. A bank is not a test. A "test" is a file that only contains the ID (i.e., objective and sequence) and order of questions selected from a bank. When you build a test from a bank, the question content remains in the bank. This allows you to use a bank to create multiple tests. A common error of new users is to call a "bank" a "test" - e.g., "I entered my questions into my test..." FYI: When questions are put on a test, they are said to "be moved to the test".

Issue: What is a "project" and how do I use one?

Response: A "project" is a set of configurations with three facets: 1) file storage location(s), 2) toolbar action, and 3) web server share location (for web testing only). With the advent of "projects", the program's usefulness can transcend the desktop to the network (LAN or WAN) or Internet level. In other words, test authoring and administration can be conducted from multiple file/share locations. The "Projects Window" is the program's interface for creating/using projects. You will want to consult the Chapter 4 reference section on the "Projects Window" in the User's Guide. Many of the tutorials in the User's Guide also reference use of the "Projects Window".

Issue: How many banks can I use to build a test?

Response: There is no limit placed on the number of banks that you can use to build a test. In 5.x, you were limited to 10 banks per test.

Issue: How can I not choose from the questions I have already put on one test when building another test?

Response: Just like in 5.x, when your Tests Window is active, use the "Select Items on Test" option in the Select menu. This option will select in the bank all questions that are on the current test. Then switch to the Bank Window and use the "Select Inverse" option in the Select menu. Now close the Tests Window and create a new test. Then choose "Selected" in the "Question View" of the new test. You will now see the selected questions to draw from in the left panel of the Tests Window.

Issue: How can I print out the Categories for each question on a test?

Response: When you go to print a test, you need to select ID under "Print Parts" - this will allow you to select "CAT" for printing category information.

Issue: How can I sort my student scores alphabetically?

Response: Simply double-click on the column heading "Student Name". In fact, if you double-click on any column heading, your student scores will be sorted sequentially according to the column values. You will want to pay attention to the sort direction to determine if sorting will be done from smallest to largest values, or vice-versa.

Issue: Is Rich Text import permitted in 6.1?

Response: No. Rich Text format is supported for export only; HTML format is also supported for export only.
