LXR*TEST Upgrading
LXR*TEST 6.1 New Features
(LXR*TEST 6.1 products are only available for the Windows operating system.) The
new 6.1 release represents the most dramatic change in the LXR*TEST product line,
which began in 1986. Everything about 6.1 is new from the foundation up, resulting
in a comprehensive, state-of-the-art testing system. Through many “behind-the-scenes”
changes, we have greatly enhanced LXR*TEST’s functionality, including a new database
system that allows for high performance, scalable network use. Here are just a few
of the changes you will experience in 6.1:
- All new, Online Testing Option, featuring both LAN and Web based testing delivery,
with re-entrant tests and multiple tests linking capability.
- Enhanced mark reader capabilities to include automatic handshaking and support of
reject bins on select readers.
- Comprehensive, new grading tables that support mastery, non-mastery and partial
mastery thresholds; tests can be scored against multiple grading tables.
- Dozens of new scores reports, including automatic group comparisons and section
totaling features.
- Enhanced graphic and multimedia support including BMP, GIF, JPEG, TIF, MOV, AVI,
WAV and more.
- Enhanced text-editing capabilities, including inlineobjects that wrap like text,
colorized text, automatic text reformatting and easier-to-use margin controls.
- Support for ActiveX/OLEobjects (directly imbedding or linking documents from other
word processors, spreadsheets, etc.)
- Automatic, multi-form test construction from user specifications and expanded item
classification schemes.
- Customizable feedback for every single question choice, the question as a whole—or
for all questions in an objective.
- Extensive, new statistics stored per question, including per test statistics and
average time spent per item.
- Multi-test scores database that can automatically process student response records
from different tests.
- Enhanced linking (including "do not use with item" feature, multi-response
scoring, 26 multiple “choices”, fractional point values, scientific notation, new
built-in medical dictionary, import/exporttemplates (export in Rich Text and HTML
formats for use with other applications), HTML-based online help and much, much
more.

Upgrade Pricing Notes
- LXR*TEST is currently available only for the Windows platform. Macintosh users wanting
to migrate to Windows may trade-in their Macintosh software under the same Windows
upgrade schedules, above.
- A 5.1 Personal Edition upgrade becomes a 6.1 Professional Edition. (There is no
Personal Edition in 6.1.)
- A 5.1 Scoring Edition becomes a 6.1 Professional Edition with the Mark Reader option.
- A 5.1 Interactive option becomes a 6.1 Online option.
- Prices are in U.S. dollars, FOB Georgetown, SC, USA and exclusive of any taxes or
other fees.

- What is a "user" and how many user licenses do I need?
A user is anyone who is authorized to run the LXR*TEST 6.1 program, i.e. an instructor
or administrator. You need to purchase enough Primary or Secondary user licenses
to cover each named individual who will run the program regardless of how many computers
you may have. If all users are at one single location, then you need only one primary
user license and the remainder may be secondary user licenses. It is frequently
cheaper to purchase the secondary user "bundles" at a lower price than
the single secondary user licenses. NOTE: Only primary users are eligible for support.
You may need to obtain additional primary user licenses, rather than secondary user
licenses, for any users who may require support. (Students are NOT users in this
context. There are no separate licensing fees for students to take an online test
on a licensed server.)
- What is a "server" license and how many server licenses do I need?
You need at least ONE server license if you order the online testing option. You
need additional server licenses for every server on which you install the web server
extensions for hosting web tests. An additional server license is also required
for each server that contains any shared LXR*TEST files/databases.
- What are the licensing arrangements for remote sites?
At one location (e.g. a single campus or office) you would purchase at least one
primary user license, any number of secondary user licenses, plus the needed number
of server licenses. Additional users at remote sites may be licensed as secondary
users of the primary location EXCEPT THAT AT LEAST ONE PRIMARY USER LICENSE MUST
BE PURCHASED for the core LXR*TEST program plus each component used (online testing
and/or mark reader options) at each remote location. If the remote site has one
or more servers with LXR*TEST software or databases installed, then an additional
server license will be required for each.
